Plastic Surgery Procedures Sydney

Dr. Flood has experience with a wide range of plastic surgery procedures.

Face Surgeries

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
Over time, factors such as gravity, stress, and environmental exposure can cause the skin to sag and develop deep wrinkles and folds. A facelift works by tightening the skin and underlying tissues, which can help to restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance. During the consultation, the cosmetic surgeon in Sydney (Dr John Flood) will evaluate your facial structure and skin quality. He will explain the various techniques available, such as the traditional facelift, mini-facelift, or a deep plane facelift, and recommend the most suitable approach for you. The procedure typically involves making incisions around the hairline and ears, lifting and repositioning the skin and muscles, and removing any excess skin. Recovery time can vary, but most patients can expect to resume normal activities within a few weeks, with full results visible in a few months.

Risks & Complications

Some risks and complications include:
  • Bleeding and hematoma.
  • Infection at the incision sites.
  • Poor wound healing and noticeable scarring.
  • Nerve injury leading to temporary or permanent facial muscle weakness.
  • Hair loss at the incision sites.
  • Skin discolouration and sensitivity changes.
  • Persistent pain or swelling.
Wrinkle Treatments
Wrinkle treatments are a popular option for individuals looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. These treatments can include a range of non-surgical options such as injectables, laser therapy, and chemical peels. Injectable treatments, such as Botox and dermal fillers, work by relaxing facial muscles or adding volume to specific areas, resulting in smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. Dr. Flood will assess your skin type and the severity of your wrinkles to determine the most appropriate treatment for you. He will discuss the potential risks & complications involved, ensuring that you have a clear understanding of what to expect. Wrinkle treatments typically require minimal downtime, allowing you to return to your daily routine quickly.

Risks & Complications

Some risks and complications include:
  • Minor and temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.
  • Rarely, the treatment may migrate into the upper eyelid, causing temporary eyelid drooping (ptosis), which typically lasts one to two weeks.
  • Serious side effects are uncommon but can occur if the injections are not appropriately placed.
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals should avoid wrinkle treatment.
  • Patients are advised to avoid certain medications or supplements that may thin the blood before treatment to prevent unwanted bruising.
Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is performed to correct prominent or misshapen ears, improving their appearance and symmetry. Dr. Flood carefully evaluates the shape and position of your ears to develop a plan that achieves the expected results.  The procedure typically involves making incisions behind the ears, reshaping the cartilage, and repositioning the ears closer to the head. Recovery time is generally short, with most patients able to return to normal activities within a week or two.

Risks & Complications

Some risks and complications include:
  • Infection and bleeding.
  • Excessive pain and skin loss.
  • Poor scarring and appearance.
  • Numbness and tingling in the ear skin.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, aims to correct drooping eyelids and remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. During your consultation, our licensed plastic surgeon in Sydney (Dr John Flood) will assess the condition of your eyelids and discuss your potential options. He will explain the different procedures available, such as upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combination of both. The procedure involves making incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids, removing excess skin and fat, and tightening the surrounding muscles. Recovery time varies, but most patients can expect to see significant improvements within a few weeks.

Brow Lift Surgery
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a procedure designed to elevate brows and smooth forehead wrinkles. Dr. Flood starts with a simple evaluation to determine the best course of action. He will explain the various techniques available, such as the traditional brow lift, endoscopic brow lift, or temporal brow lift, and recommend the most suitable approach for you. The procedure typically involves making incisions along the hairline or within the scalp, lifting and repositioning the skin and underlying tissues, and removing any excess skin. Post Surgery recovery is usually a couple of weeks, with most patients able to return to normal activities between 10-14 days.

Risks & Complications

Some risks and complications include:
  • Scarring, including possible hair loss at the incision sites.

This procedure is often combined with a facelift for a more comprehensive rejuvenation of the lower face and neck. Our Plastic Surgeon (Dr. Flood) will evaluate the condition of your neck and discuss your aesthetic goals. He will explain the different procedures available, and recommend the most suitable approach for you. The procedure typically involves making incisions behind the ears and under the chin, removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the underlying muscles. Recovery time varies, but most patients can expect to see significant improvements within a few weeks.

He will explain the different procedures available, such as tumescent liposuction & ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), and recommend the most suitable approach for you. This procedure is often used in areas such as the face, breasts, buttocks, and hands. Fat grafting is an option for individuals looking to improve their appearance without the use of synthetic materials. Dr. Flood will evaluate your body composition and discuss your goals.
